The Sauk River Site Bank Stabilization project for Washington State Department of Transportation was an ecologically friendly solution to saving SR 530 north of Darrington from being undercut by a branch of the Sauk River.
The design stabilized the river bank while preserving and improving fish-spawning areas. Crews built a revetment by driving 112 steel pilings into the river bank to hold 355 logs, 20,000 ton of rock and woody debris in place.
