Eelgrass restoration, Bainbridge Island, WA

Working for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the overall objective of this project was to restore critical benthic spawning habitat to migratory salmonids and other local fauna through the restoration of Eelgrass beds. Jansen Inc. barged in over 19,000 CY of sand and place the material into a depression on the ocean floor at the historical Milwaukee Dock Site, offshore of the Wyckoff Superfund Site located on Bainbridge Island, WA.

Jansen Inc. barged material in on 4,000 ton loads. Material was place with a 65’ long reach excavator from the large 4000 ton barge. A spud barge and tug were onsite to assist in stabilizing the larger barge during placement.
